Introduction to consent is a picture-based, Easy English and Plain Language resource for teaching people about consent.
SHFPACT and SECCA have partnered together to design and develop this book about consent. The book has pages in Easy English with pictures to explain the text. It also has pages written in plain language to provide more detail on these topics. The book was developed in consultation with people with disability.
This book introduces important consent topics and provides examples of consent and different ways to communicate.
It includes information about:
personal space
boundaries
consent
feeling and being safe
public and private
different types of touch.
This book is for everyone. It can be read by people of all ages and abilities. From a sex positive and person-centred approach, this book is written in a way that reinforces the body autonomy and rights of people with disability. It aims to provide people with information to help them understand and put into practice consent every day.
This book is available for download in double-page spread
and single-page spread.
Please note that the alt text for images is currently missing from both PDFs. We are actively working on incorporating alt text into the single-page spread PDF and will update it as soon as possible.
This book is managed by SHFPACT as part of the Safer Me Safer You project in collaboration with SECCA. It is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. There are two books in this series. This is the first book on consent. The second book is on sexual consent. This book will help you feel comfortable with boundaries and consent. To learn about sexual consent, please read Book 2 in this consent series: Introduction to Sexual Consent.
