We have hosted two conferences, called Big Meetings, since the start of the Project. Both meetings were hybrid events with an online and in-person option. Using a hybrid style event was important as it allowed an extra element of accessibility for those who would face barriers attending one singular format. Significantly, at both events all presenters and performers were people with disability. This allowed us to further highlight the voices and experiences of the disability community.
For our Big Meetings we created multiple resources to send out to participants ahead of time, as well as for them to use during the events. These resources can be adapted to suit a range of events that you may want to hold. Examples of these documents can be found below.

9. Rosemary Kayess on the current approaches to disability
Hear our keynote speaker from the 2024 SMSY Big Meeting - Rosemary Kayess. Rosemary talks to us about her work and the structural approaches to disability. Rosemary is an Australian human rights lawyer, disability rights activist, researcher and academic. She is the current Disability Discrimination Commissioner in Australia.
