The Safer Me, Safer You project has been working in partnership with Darwin Youth Services to support the introduction of the I Respect Program, to support students to learn about safe relationships. Darwin Youth Services Director Sarah Austin worked with Students in three Wiwi Islands Communities to learn about healthy relationships, consent non-consent and coercion. This students from the Tiwi Islands wrote a song to capture what safety means to them, featured in this film clip.
Darwin Youth Services has been working with First Nations communities and Elders in the Tiwi Islands to introduce a program called I Respect with students from the local high school. This program aims to create a culture where young people discuss and define what healthy relationships are, and learn about consent, non-consent and coercion. The students with support from Sarah Austin from Darwin Youth Services have written a song in local language about social and sexual safety and filmed it with support from Red Dust films.
