The Safer Me Safer You Project uses a range of co-design principles to guide our work. These are:
We have agreed Project aims
Within the project team and with our Project Advisory Group, we spend the time to agree on the key project aims, and revisit them regularly.
We plan flexibly
The Project plan takes a flexible, person centred approach to all activities. We acknowledge that the Project is a complex dynamic environment with multiple, sometimes competing, priorities.
We share power
All voices are privileged in the ongoing shaping of the Project.
We build trust
The concepts of safety, respect and consent are foundational to the Project, as the core content of our work and as a way of working with one another.
We believe safety is essential
Building safety is a key priority in all conversations. We acknowledge that we cannot talk about safety unless we feel safe. This includes having choices about: meeting in person or online, selecting the screen on or off, having a support person in attendance, using captions or sharing our personal stories.
We learn together from each other
In every meeting, we state our explicit goal of learning from, and with, one another. We are open to the changes and challenges this openness to sharing creates.
We share ownership of the Project
The project belongs to, and is owned by, the Project team and the Project Advisory Group. We work together to agree upon the project aims and success criteria, particularly around further co-design activities and new resource development.
We reflect on our learnings
As we complete activities we review them in discussion with the Project Advisory Group. We learn from these experiences and document how we will make changes in the future. When we create resources in hard or soft copy, we codesign them with Project Advisory Group members throughout the entire process.
We share accountability
The Project processes ensure that robust measures are in place to support the achievement of shared goals across the life of the Project. All the Project team will be accountable. We celebrate our successes regularly with the Project Advisory Group.
